WELCOME TO THE GLACIER RCERS CLUB.
Glacier RCers is a self-supporting, non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote development of model aviation as a recognized sport and worthwhile recreation activity in the Flathead Valley. The organization is open to anyone interested in model aviation. Glacier RCers is an officially chartered member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
The club has several major organized events annually (see the Events page) but our members can typically be found at the field flying most days virtually year round. We encourage you to stop by and visit the field. Talk to our members and find out about the joys of model aviation.
For more information on either the club or the hobby of model aviation, please contact us at robbie@avid-products.com

THE RECREATIONAL UAS SAFETY TEST (TRUST)
This is the new Knowledge and Safety Test that was rolled out in June by FAA. The FAA rules now require folks who fly Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), or in our language R/C airplanes and drones, for recreational or educational purposes to take this test and have a completion certificate with us anytime we are flying. Drone pilots who fly for commercial purposes will need to take amore rigorous test to qualify for Part 107 operation, and will also need to take the TRUST test to fly at our field for recreational or educational purposes. AMA has been authorized by FAA to administer this test for its members. The best way to take this test is to go to www.modelaircraft.org/trust and follow the prompts. Some of our members have already taken this test, passed it, and are carrying their certificate of completion in their field box or wallet. There are a number of organizations authorized to administer this test, but AMA is the preferred path for us. WARNING!!! SOME FOLKS HAVE SET UP WEBSITES TO OFFER THIS TEST FOR A FEE.DO NOT USE THEM! YOU MAY OR MAY NOT GET A CERTIFICATE FROM THEM, AND FAA WILL HAVE NO RECORD OF YOU HAVING TAKEN THE TEST. USE ONLY THE AMAWEBSITE TO TAKE THIS TEST!!!
This test will be fairly easy, and if you answer a question incorrectly, it will serve as a learning experience. If you do not have a computer that can talk to the internet, or if you feel you may need some coaching to take this test, contact Robbie. You must have a printer available to print the certificate. Print several copies in case you lose one. If you lose all your copies, you will have to re-take the test, and your certificate number will change. Another option is to transfer your certificate to you smart phone and save it so you can show it in case an FAA official asks to see it.
FAA Registration
LATEST UPDATE, AS OF 12-12-2017
It’s now the LAW! Any PERSON flying a radio controlled small unmanned aerial vehicle outdoors or weighing 0.55 pounds or more must be registered with the FAA. The pilot must have his FAA registration certificate with him, and his FAA number must be on the aircraft and visible without the use of tools. Due to our field location on an airport regulated by the FAA, we must obey this law to avoid putting ourselves, our club, and our flying site at risk. If you don’t have an FAA number, get one! Put your FAA number on all your aircraft!
